Sex Differences in Amphetamine Induced Displacement of [F] Fallypride in Striatal and Extrastriatal Regions: A PET Study
نویسندگان
چکیده
OBJECTIVE: This study examined sex differences in d-amphetamine induced displacements of [ 18 F]fallypride in striatal and extrastriatal regions and the correlations of these displacements with cognition and sensation seeking. METHOD: Six females and seven males underwent positron emission tomography with [ 18 F]fallypride before and after an oral dose of d-amphetamine. Percent displacements were calculated using regions of interest and parametric images of DA D 2 receptor binding potential (b.p.). RESULTS: Parametric images of DA release suggest that women have greater DA release than men in the right globus pallidus and right inferior frontal gyrus. Sex differences were seen in correlations of changes in cognition and sensation seeking with regional DA release. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates greater DA release in women and sex differences in the relationship of regional DA release to sensation seeking and cognition.

متن کاملSex differences in the relationship of regional dopamine release to affect and cognitive function in striatal and extrastriatal regions using positron emission tomography and [¹⁸F]fallypride.
The purpose of this study was to examine sex differences in the correlations of d-amphetamine (d-AMPH) induced displacements of [¹⁸F]fallypride in striatal and extrastriatal regions in relation to affect and cognition. Seven male and six female healthy subjects, whose mean age was 25.9 years, underwent positron emission tomography (PET) with [¹⁸F]fallypride at baseline and 3 h after a 0.43 mg/k...
متن کاملSmall effect of dopamine release and no effect of dopamine depletion on [18F]fallypride binding in healthy humans.
Molecular imaging has been used to estimate both drug-induced and tonic dopamine release in the striatum and most recently extrastriatal areas of healthy humans. However, to date, studies of drug-induced and tonic dopamine release have not been performed in the same subjects. This study performed positron emission tomography (PET) with [18F]fallypride in healthy subjects to assess (1) the repro...

UNLABELLED The high-affinity D(2/3) PET radioligand (18)F-fallypride offers the possibility of measuring both striatal and extrastriatal dopamine release during activation paradigms. When a single (18)F-fallypride scanning protocol is used, task timing is critical to the ability to explore both striatal and extrastriatal dopamine release simultaneously. We evaluated the sensitivity and optimal ...
متن کاملStriatal and extrastriatal dopamine release measured with PET and [(18)F] fallypride.
The amphetamine challenge, in which positron emission tomography (PET) or single photon emission computed tomography radioligand binding following administration of amphetamine is compared to baseline values, has been successfully used in a number of brain imaging studies as an indicator of dopaminergic function, particularly in the striatum. [(18)F] fallypride is the first PET radioligand that...
